1 May: Housing Development Workshop (Planning Reform)

The Northern Housing Consortium, in partnership with Campbell Tickell, is running a series of housing development workshops focussing on various themes in relation to our member’s housebuilding ambitions, the challenges faced in delivering on those goals, and the wider context of the government’s housing and planning agenda.

The government has a goal to build 1.5 million homes by the end of this parliament. Within this, councils are being given new housebuilding targets under new planning rules aimed at building 370,000 homes a year.

With new planning rules coming into place, including the recently released Planning and Infrastructure Bill, the NHC and Campbell Tickell are hosting a webinar that will discuss with members how to best navigate the new regulatory environment. This session will look at the impact of the planning reforms and its impact on building homes in the North.

In the NHC’s National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) consultation response, we wrote that the Government “, it is important that Government recognises the different context the north of England faces”. This session will look at the changes the new NPPF brings and see if the challenges that the North faces are taken into account.

Speakers:

  • Rob Murfin, Director of Housing and Planning (Chief Planning Officer), Northumberland County Council – Rob will be giving his perspective as a Director of a local authority housing and planning team on what the changes in the NPPF mean for his work.
  • John Townsend, Senior Transport Planner, ARUP – John will discuss how housing and planning links with infrastructure planning to get the best outcomes for residents.

Campbell Tickell speakers:

Maggie Rafalowicz and James McHugh
