Issue: 56 | October 2021
Welcome to the fourth issue of CT Brief Ireland
Following last year’s change of government in the Republic, significant changes are being progressed to help tackle the housing crisis, with a new Affordable Housing Act, the housing policy statement Housing for All, and the establishment of a new regulator for Approved Housing Bodies.
In the North, the Northern Ireland Housing Executive has turned 50 years old, but needs significant reinvestment in its homes, while it is hoped that next year’s Stormont elections will lead to a renewed policy focus on housing. Meanwhile, homelessness continues to be a major problem, with thousands of people affected north and south.
This edition features contributions from the north and south of the island of Ireland, including the Housing Agency, the AHBs Regulatory Authority, Northern Ireland Housing Executive, and the housing sector trade bodies ICSH and NIFHA, as well as the Housing Alliance.
We also have articles from individual organisations working on the ground to deliver housing, tackle homelessness and benefit local communities. And for good measure, we finish with several items that are not specific to Ireland, on leading through the pandemic, housing regulation, and engaging residents.
